At Aussie Tiny Houses, we have the absolute pleasure of playing a big role in bringing people’s dreams of tiny house living into reality. We love every home we build, but to have four of them featured on the Living Big in a Tiny House web series is a particular honour.
Living Big in a Tiny House is an online web series by NZ-based actor, filmmaker and environmentalist Bryce Langston. In the show, Bryce travels the world to check out tiny house designs and share the stories of the people who live in them. In line with the channel’s name, he also shows the many ways downsizing to a tiny home can allow people to live larger lives.
From a tiny house that fits a family of four to an off-grid design surrounded by a food forest, let’s take a look at the Aussie Tiny Houses projects that featured on the channel.
Modern tiny house to fit a family
In a lovely twist of fate, Amy and Greg actually discovered the tiny house movement from watching the Living Big in a Tiny House channel. After learning about the financial freedom and simpler lifestyle that tiny living offered, it wasn’t long before they were inspired to build their own.
To be able to fit themselves and two kids, they chose Aussie Tiny Houses’ Teewah 7.2 model. This design features two queen sized lofts and, with an extra sofa bed, can sleep up to 6 people. The gorgeous, modern design incorporates many natural elements to ensure it blends in beautifully with the surrounding environment. They even built a large modular deck that gives them more space to spend outside and host guests.
Parked on a corner of a friend’s property, they’re surrounded by stunning farmlands and are lucky enough to have the space to keep chickens and grow a veggie garden.
Abundant storage in our biggest tiny house
This bespoke design for Colin and Megan was one of our first builds at Aussie Tiny Houses and is certainly big for a tiny house. With a gooseneck design, it’s 12 metres long and 3 metres wide, allowing the interior to feel extra spacious. Pair this with clever storage solutions and you’ve got yourself an incredibly functional design with all the benefits of a tiny house on wheels.
Aussie Tiny Houses built the shell of this tiny home, so it was ready for Colin, an ex-cabinet maker, to finish it off with the help of Megan and their interior designer daughter. The result is a stunning Hampton-style design that they hope to live in through retirement. The gooseneck design, which is much less common in Australia than the U.S., was chosen to avoid the need for a loft bedroom. The large size does mean it requires a permit during transportation, but this isn’t an issue for Colin and Megan who plan to stay in the same location for quite some time.
An off-grid tiny house with a self-sustaining garden
Kirra and Anthony’s journey to tiny living wasn’t a spur of the moment decision. They’d been interested in the alternative housing movement for many years, and Anthony even spent five years living on the road in a van. But it was a yearning to live surrounded by nature without having a negative impact on the environment that made them finally take the leap. Now, their off-grid tiny house allows them to do just that without missing out on the luxuries of a modern home. Their Yaroomba 7.2 design, an older version of the current Yaroomba 8.4, has two bedrooms, a sofa bed, large kitchen, luxurious bathroom and plenty of storage. Lots of windows help them always feel a part of the surrounding nature, and a large deck helps extend their living space outside. Beyond that, they’ve grown themselves a beautiful syntropic garden—a farming technique that takes inspiration from forests, growing everything together so it can become self-sustaining.
“Aussie Tiny Houses are so good to work with, and incredibly flexible with the design process. When building a Tiny, the key to it working is in the customisation – tailor-building to fit the householders needs. And the crew at ATH were amazing in this regard!”

Luxury meets simplicity
A particularly special project for us here at Aussie Tiny Houses was this custom build for one of our very own designers, Jessica. As such, Jessica was able to be very involved in the design and the result is a unique, magical tiny house tucked away in the forest.
Located on a forested part of her host’s property in Eumundi, Queensland, this tiny home is the epitome of luxury and simplicity. The exterior consists entirely of Monument tin to help it integrate into the surrounding forest and avoid the maintenance that comes with timber. Inside, an array of windows bring the outside in and ensure there’s plenty of natural light. A skylight above the loft bedroom helps make the space feel larger and is the perfect place to stargaze. A timber slab kitchen bench with wheels can even be moved outside for entertaining friends and family who visit often.
The home consists of a loft bedroom, sofa bed, simple kitchen and luxurious bathroom. Ample storage in the kitchen and bathroom has even left Jessica with enough space to spare that she thinks she could have gone smaller! For power, Jessica has one of Aussie Tiny Houses’ solar trailers for easy relocation in summer and winter.
