Tiny House Accessories That Will Make Your Life So Much Easier

Tiny House Accessories

Tiny house living is more popular than ever before, but you’d be forgiven for getting a bit overwhelmed with what it entails. From culling your belongings to creating a multipurpose living space, it’s definitely one hell of an adjustment. Thankfully, by carefully selecting some accessories, you can make your space a whole lot comfier and more spacious. For easy storage, better organisation and simple enjoyment, these are some tiny house accessories we absolutely love.

Foldable storage

We all need somewhere to dump our miscellaneous things without worrying about the mess, and storage boxes are generally the best way to do this. Even better if they look nice and can be folded down for easy storage when not in use. Most department stores sell ones made from water hyacinth that are perfect for open shelving and will spruce up any tiny home.

Collapsible containers

We’ve all experienced the anxiety inducing mess that is the container cupboard. But these collapsible lunch boxes from Wakatobi are the perfect, space saving solution to this. They can be folded in on themselves for storage but are still dishwasher, microwave, oven and freezer safe. Take them on a picnic or pack the next day’s lunch and they’ll fit compactly back in your bag when you’re done. Or even bring them to restaurants so you don’t need to use single use takeaway containers for your leftovers.

Deck chair

If you’re buying a tiny house but don’t like the outdoors, we have some bad news for you: you’ll need to learn to love it! Most tiny house owners spend a significant amount of their time outside, many even building a deck once they’ve found a place to settle. And what good is a deck without some comfy chairs to sit in while you enjoy a warm cup of morning coffee? These collapsible deck chairs from Temple & Webster offer the perfect way to do this, and best of all they can be easily packed up in the car for a trip to the beach or stored safely inside the tiny home the next time you move location.

Multi-layered coat hangers

Couldn’t part with as many clothes as you’d hoped? Multi-layered coat hangers might just be a lifesaver. They let you hang multiple garments vertically, and can save a surprising amount of closet space. Check out Howard’s Storage World for options specifically designed to hang shirts, pants, scarves, ties and belts.

Pegboard storage

One organisational product that’s not as popular as it should be is a pegboard. They’re ideal for hanging oddly shaped items, like kitchen utensils, pots and pans where they’re easy to access. They’re also good for keeping everything in place in your drawers or as hanging space on the inside of cupboards. And, when the layout doesn’t work for you anymore, all you need to do is rearrange the pegs and it’s ready to go again. If you have some tools, they’re easy to DIY. If not, this one from So Watt is ready-made from Hoop Pine plywood and will look great on any wall.

Fairy lights

Who doesn’t love snuggling up under the blankets with some nice mood lighting and a movie? Fairy lights offer this ambiance without the bulkiness of lamps. Weave them through bannisters or around the ceiling and they take up effectively no space. Depending on the ones you buy, they use batteries, can be plugged in or run on solar power. Find them at most hardware and department stores.

Cable Management Box

In a small space, power cords become so much more noticeable, and if you have a lot they can quickly turn into a tangled mess. Cable management boxes let you hide your power boards, with slots where your cords can come out in an orderly fashion. When not in use they can then be wrapped up and hidden neatly in the box. They can be found in stores like Bunnings and IKEA in a wide range of designs to suit your interior style.

Foldable stool

If you like to have guests over but never seem to have enough seating, a foldable stool might be your answer. These awesome (and beautiful) designs can be folded to a depth of only 3cm for easy storage. They’re made with folded up recycled kraft paper that, when rounded into a stool, is strong enough to hold 300kg. Who would have thought a paper stool would be so pretty!?

Hammock

The inside of your tiny home might be a bit cramped, but the outdoors certainly isn’t. Whether you’ve got a deck or just some trees to tie it to, a hammock offers a whole new spot to chill. Maybe you need some space to yourself (notoriously difficult in a tiny home) or you just like to spend more time outdoors, a hammock will let you do just that. They also take up very little space when not in use. Check out this one from Nakie that’s made from approximately 37 recycled plastic bottles!

Air purifier

You probably won’t realise how much you need an air purifier until you move into your tiny home but, in such a small space, dust can accumulate much faster than in a standard home. While opening doors and windows can help with ventilation, they’ll also let the outside elements and allergens inside. An air purifier will catch dust, pollen and pet fur to keep your home from becoming stale and smelly. And for one that won’t take up much space, this sleek design from IKEA can be hung on the wall or stood on a shelf.

As tiny house builders, we’re here to make sure your tiny home has been designed for functionality in such a small space. But, while we can provide some recommendations, choosing how you use that space is entirely up to you. Start things off right with these tiny house accessories that will help keep your home organised for a long time to come.
