Tiny House Design – Things To Know Before You Customize Your Tiny Home

Tiny House Design

Every space in your Tiny House needs to support your lifestyle. With lots to think about and so many choices in Tiny House design, it can be overwhelming.

One of the easiest ways to begin designing your home is to choose a Tiny House from our range of models. With 35 years experience in design and building, we realise what works best for living and working in small spaces so all our designs have been developed with that in mind.

Nevertheless, to meet individual needs we may allow minor changes, however, it usually leads to a more overwhelming process and expensive finished project.

To help you avoid unnecessary pitfalls, in this post, we will talk about what you need to know before you decide to customize your Tiny House design.

The pros and cons of customizing your Tiny House design

Deciding to customize your Tiny House opens up so many possibilities! The Tiny House models we selected for our standard range are tried and tested. They range from loft bedrooms to ground floor bedrooms and kitchen configurations that will surprise you. With so many storage options and wood finishes and paint colours to choose from, your Tiny House is guaranteed to be your very own design.

A small design change in a Tiny House space can have big implications. Our model design is flexible. Choosing the cabinetry, wood finishes and even moving the front door if you need to is where you get to customise your own home.

We understand that it’s the little things that count so if your modifications are not significant, we’ll adjust the standard model design and plans FREE!

If you have bigger ideas, we’ll help you avoid overwhelm, keep building costs within your budget and design a home built to last. Create your Tiny House design with our step by step process. Custom plans are $750 and when you decide to go ahead with your build they’ll be refunded back to you.

Things to consider when customizing your Tiny House design

A Tiny House usually needs to be kept within the size and weight limits required for transportation. All our standard design models comply with this requirement and we’ll ensure your custom design does too.

Wheels or no wheels?

  • Designing your Tiny House on a registered trailer gives you easier mobility than a demountable house on stumps. We design and build both options and are happy to chat about which would suit your needs best.
  • A Tiny House on a trailer is classified as a ‘caravan’ and in Australia, you can live in one permanently on land where there is an existing dwelling.
  • A permanent foundation for a house can be expensive to lay and requires ownership of the land. Most of our Tiny House customers have found family or friends who have offered a corner of their land for a nominal rent, just like Amy and Greg from Life Done Simple

Power and plumbing

  • Whether you decide on electricity, gas, solar or a combination is often tied to decisions about whether or not to have a compost toilet and water tank. And these are determined largely by where you’re going to put your Tiny House.

Start with these big picture decisions first then you’ll find designing the inside flows easier from there.

Once you’ve chosen a standard model to start, if you need to move windows and doors, the design team will quickly identify if the changes affect the structure of the build and offer suggestions so you get a house built to last and a home you love to be in.

Building materials

At Aussie Tiny Houses we use only quality materials so you get a home that lasts the test of time. The craftsmanship you’ll notice in every Tiny House comes from our build team using quality materials combined with great design.

We’re able to offer reasonable prices because we buy all our building materials in bulk and build your home completely on site at our Coolum factory. We understand that you may want to make small changes to the range of designs we offer. Bear in mind that changes outside of the range of material choices we have can lead to a more expensive house because we’d not be buying our supplies at bulk prices.

Our fixtures and fittings are modern and durable. If you’d prefer to supply your own light fittings, tapware, sinks and toilets we can incorporate them into your Tiny House.

What is the customization process?

Sharing and communicating your Tiny House design ideas and requirements can be done in person, over the phone or via email. We have 35 years experience in design and building across Australia and are here to guide you every step of the way.

Custom Tiny House Design Process

Whether your Tiny House design is customized or not, at Aussie Tiny Houses you’re guaranteed a fixed price upfront including everything you want with structural engineering approval and insurance before the build begins. Once your custom design is completed, you’ll receive the plans and quote to review and sign.

We would love to help you build your dream Tiny House. Pick one of our standard Tiny House Design, get a ballpark quote and rely on the step by step process to give your home the attention it deserves.
